For over 20 years the Bodega Marine Lab has had an Oyster Hatchery. I’m always learning about our rich history and capabilities. Â One species we are especially good at culturing is our native oyster, the Olympia Oyster (Ostrea lurida). This species is a focus of conservation aquaculture in California. Â While it is a slow grower and smaller than the Japanese Oyster (aka the Pacific or Miyagi Oyster) it is a favorite in the oyster bars.
