At the World Aquaculture Society meeting, LACAQUA19, Thursday plenary speaker, Dr. Enric Gisbert spoke on the increasing role and influence of women in aquaculture in the 21st century. This will come in many forms such as business owners, community leaders dealing with food security issues, and in science and engineering. This acknowledgement and recognition brought on an ovation throughout the hall.

In California and throughout the West Coast, we also see a number of women taking leadership roles in aquaculture. Just to name a few: Dr Jesse Trushenski; Director of Science at Riverence, Sue Cudd; President of Whiskey Creek Shellfish Hatchery, and Katie Mackey Harris; President and General manager of Mt Lassen Trout and Steelhead.
